This world-renowned Dragonfly design is undoubtedly the most famous of all Tiffany lamps. It was created by Clara Driscoll for Tiffany Studios circa 1900 and won awards at major World Expositions for its imaginative, avant-garde design. It also brought fame and big business for Mr. Tiffany.

Since the dragonfly is depicted flying in its natural habitat the craftsman is free to create any sort of stream or pond in which the insect flies along with an atmosphere and mood ranging from sunny, sad, to foreboding according to the colored glass he chooses to tell the story of a day in the life an insect.

The complimentary cast metal base Ms. Driscoll designed for the shade has embossed flower and fauna of a swampy setting and the cut glass background mosaic tiles as the pond water. The squat shape of the base makes for a stubby lamp but perhaps more like a unique lighted sculpture.
